Václav Polívka has been playing the cink since 1996 – first as a member of the Karmína ensemble, later also as a member of occasional chamber ensembles – a cink ensemble created during a course at Týn School (1997), participation in a Baroque opera project organized by the Dutch company Pellegrina (1998), band Jagabab (since 2002), participation in the performance of Monteverdi's Marian Vespers in Rajnochovice (2005), Vivaldi's Gloria with the Prague Singers, and Czech Renaissance music with the Polyfonion ensemble.
He mastered this instrument thanks to his studies of the trumpet at the Vrané nad Vltavou Music School (1984–1986, Zdeněk Zahálka), courses in the cornet (Ken Bache, Emmanuel Mure, Judith Pacquier, Gebhard David), and private lessons with Thomas Friedländer in Dresden. In addition to Monteverdi's Vespers, his repertoire includes Renaissance and Baroque compositions, improvisation on a given theme for various occasions and settings, and chamber music.
